Honoring Our Community Heroes

The Y Salute award is an annual honor given to an individual or group of individuals in our community who have demonstrated great courage in the face of adversity and continue to impact our community in a positive way. The Salute is a celebration of the resilience of the human spirit and congratulates the individuals who rise above to impact the lives of others.

The Salute to Courage event helps the Lawrence County YMCA fulfill our charitable mission: No child or family should be deprived of YMCA programs and services because of their financial or economic circumstances. Event proceeds provide scholarships for youth and families in need so they may have access to services, programs, childcare, and activities offered by the Lawrence County YMCA.

Criteria for the Y Salute Award

The Lawrence County YMCA believes in the community in which we live. Every day, we encounter individuals from our community who represent the core values upon which the YMCA was established – honesty, caring, respect and responsibility – and have demonstrated exceptional passion in promoting positive change in our community.

We believe that these individuals need to be recognized for their outstanding leadership, service, courage, and held up as an example for our community to see.
